"By the way, did you know that Palatakia is derived from 'palati', Greek for palace", Henri looks at me with a glint in his eyes. I didn't know that, but I could have guessed. What a beautiful place this is! Owners Henri and Alexandra have a love for the traditions of the island and this is reflected everywhere at Palatakia Village Houses. When I arrived here an hour ago, I looked open-mouthed at the stone houses with beautiful wooden shutters, the wonderful swimming pool and the lovely seats. This is already a great start to my holiday in Cyprus.
Henri points to a sofa in the sun that looks very tempting to sit on. I sink into it with satisfaction, while Henri opens a bottle of wine and tells me about his adventure here in Cyprus. About how he and Alexandra discovered these dilapidated houses years ago and transformed them into this lovely place. "We wanted to keep the old style, but with the luxury of today," he says.
Well, in my opinion, it worked out very well. We sit there for hours on the sofa, enjoying the wine, sharing stories about travelling in the Mediterranean and watching the sunset. At the end of the evening, I walk to my studio with a satisfied feeling. What a silence. I would love to stay in this Cypriot palace for a while!
