It will be worth the wait, I told myself as I walked past the giant olive tree where Nikos and Maria wanted to build their little palace. One beautiful sunny morning, the time had come: Mastrogiannis Country Retreat was ready!
There is greenery all around and centuries-old olive trees proudly surround the four villas. ‘Kalimera!’, Maria welcomed me with a big smile. The villas are completely detached and I wanted to see them all. Knowing Maria, the level of detail was going to be something else. The first details that struck me were typically Greek stone arcs with a bench in their shade, little balconies and blossoming flowers.
The villas are comfortable, spacious and feature a private pool each. Every bedroom comes with an en-suite bathroom. Maria told me about each and every choice she had made. How the large window was made to look like a painting and how she incorporated the island vibe of Corfu into each villa with her choice of colours and materials.
’I'm cooking for you tonight!’, she said as she left me to it at the private villa. Worth the wait indeed!
