Introduction

Holiday Crete: discover this Greek island

The sharp bends and steep roads on Crete are always a challenge. But because I know what kind of beauty there is to discover on this island, I always like to take that challenge. During a holiday on Crete I can enjoy the hospitality of Greece to the max. Once when I was on Crete at Easter, before I knew it I was sitting at the table between a large Greek family enjoying all kinds of Greek delicacies. Because Crete is mostly known for tourist places like Hersonissos, it is for me an even nicer challenge to look for unspoiled places. Because there are plenty of them! Whether you're island hopping or want a seaside holiday, Crete is well worth exploring. Not surprisingly, I've even found a few exclusive gems there.

Small hotels & apartments on Crete

The range of holiday locations in Crete is so diverse that you can go there with everyone. Go for a cosy family holiday in a villa or find a romantic Adults Only hotel. Do you want a really special Greek holiday home? I even have a windmill in my offer! In this unique apartment on Crete you can really enjoy the Greek life.

My small locations on the Greek Islands are very popular and are often full very quickly. Would you like to book a holiday to Crete? Then quickly ensure yourself of a unique spot away from the crowd! Or change tack and check out my newest discoveries or pack your bags for a last minute trip to Greece.

Eliza's tips

Places to visit on Crete

With a fly & drive holiday on Crete, you can easily get into a rental car and explore the unknown villages and beaches. Crete has more to offer than busy seaside resorts or popular nightlife areas during the summer holidays. Much more! I love walking through spectacular gorges and past beautiful old villages in the mountains, where farmers still ride mules to their fields and vineyards. I enjoy the shepherd traversing a barren plain with his herd of goats. This is authentic Greece  and therefore one of my favourite holiday destinations in the Mediterranean. A nice holiday tip I would like to give you is to take a tour to make. This way you don't just visit one, but two (or even more) locations during a small holiday. Crete lends itself perfectly for that. And I can definitely recommend you to travel to Loutro, the remote coastal town that can only be reached by boat. There the typical Greek mezze tastes unparalleled!

Culinary journey through Crete

The kitchen of Crete is known as healthy and simple. Here you can enjoy dishes made from the purest and freshest ingredients. But that doesn't make it any less delicious! Olive oil is also a favourite and is always used liberally in meals. In every village on Crete you can find delicious local cheeses. Graviera is my favourite. This is sweet as a young cheese, but becomes nutty as it matures. Cheese is also made into very tasty fried delicacies, which are eaten with sweet honey. For example Sarikopitakia with goat cheese, this was a true taste sensation for me. If you're going on a wedding trip to Crete, I can also definitely recommend immersing yourself in Greek cuisine together, there's no shortage of refined bites!

Weather: much love from Crete

The warm, dry summers are perfect for a sunshine holiday to Crete. On the coast, the sea breeze provides a pleasant coolness. Inland, the temperature can rise to 40 degrees in the summer months, making a refreshing dip in the sea desirable during a beach holiday on Crete. Are you going to Crete for a short week? It is certainly no punishment to spend the day at your Greek location with private pool, so you can experience the ultimate holiday feeling. Travelling to Crete in the winter is less pleasant, as it is often cool and wet.
