Full of expectations, I drove my rental car up the mountain. I was headed for a 200-year-old hotel called Hotel Elia, a historic building on beautiful Crete. When I got out of the car, Jo was already walking my way. She works at the hotel and told me right off the bat that stress is a taboo here.
We passed through the garden on the way to my room. The interior reflects that authentic Greek style, a perfect match with the old building. A canopy bed in the centre of the room caught my eye immediately. I quickly dropped my things and set out to explore the estate. A narrow path led me to a remarkable tree: the world’s oldest olive tree. It had been there for 200 years and creates a very special atmosphere. Not far ahead, I noticed the swimming pool. How enticing!
The next couple of day would be all about swimming and enjoying the sun. They also have a spa with a comfy sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath for some ultimate relaxation. And when you’re in for a more active day, there is plenty of hiking to be done in the area. For now, I decided to stay in my hammock with a good book. Stress? What's that?

When you book your rental car, you can pick it up at your destination and drive to your accommodation yourself. The transport to the pick-up point of the rental car is arranged by you.
