Petronikolis

'Traditional House' was written on the outside wall of the house. I wanted to knock but the door was already open. Both literally and figuratively speaking. ‘Welcome!’, Yannis and Titos shook my hand. Two warm-hearted Greeks who took me to the seats by the swimming pool in the garden before giving me the grand tour. They got me a chilled drink and as the sun was illuminating a clear blue sky, Yannis embarked on his story. ‘This house is our family history which starts in 1820.’ Yannis spoke with a smile on his face and his pride was reflected in the gestures of his hands. About how his great-great grandfather had built the house in 1820. How he had gifted it to his son who passed it on to his son and how their grandfather Yannis gave it to his two grandsons generations later.

I loved the authentic Greek style, old beams and handmade furniture at the house. Which is surprisingly modern at the same time. You can see how family oriented these people are, because all apartments are all about togetherness and warmth. Living rooms with sofas and large dining tables for endless dining sessions. Traditional House, a near-perfect description. I would just add the word ‘family’. A family house. That’s what this is.
