As the sun slowly set behind the mountains, a sigh of happiness escaped my lungs. What a magnificent view of the mountains and olive groves of Crete. All from the comfort of the private balcony. There was no way I would be able to focus on my book. The view was just too stunning.
Suddenly, someone knocked on my door. I was surprised and got up to see who it was. It was Maria with a plateful of food. ‘Wow, that smells amazing, Maria! It's great to see you. But I haven’t ordered any food, have I?’. A big grin appeared on her face. ‘You're right, you haven’t. But I wanted to surprise you tonight. So I made you some lychnarakia, a traditional Greek dish. It’s a savoury pie with sweet cheese. You'll be making it yourself in cooking class tomorrow! Enjoy your meal!’.
I returned to the balcony and took a bite of lychnarakia. Wow, that was the best savoury pie I had ever tasted! Looking forward to the next day, I slowly emptied the plate. I couldn’t wait to learn some of her cooking skills. And after class, I would return to the balcony because I just couldn’t get enough of this hidden little paradise.
