Pearls of Crete

I’ll never get enough of those typical Greek roads. One minute you’re driving by the coast, the next you take a winding little road up a mountain. And without exception, you’re rewarded with the beauty of Crete. This side of Crete has many unspoiled spots, small bays and remote coastal towns. The natural beauty and cultural feeling is best preserved in the eastern part. I was already experiencing that ultimate holiday feeling and I hadn’t even arrived at my destination yet. I couldn’t wait to get to Makrigialos for a holiday at Pearls of Crete.

Colourful houses, the smell of the sea and the sound of rustling leaves; my senses were tickled the second I arrived. The house breathes comfort and cosiness. I admired the spacious patio surrounded by palm trees and the magnificent private pool. The owner Giorgos approached just when I had finished gazing at the gorgeous garden. He gave me a warm welcome and I immediately felt that I had arrived at a family home. We took a seat on the patio while his brother, Alexandros, fetched me a glass of cold water with sage. ‘A local refreshment’, he said.

They told me all about their best memories of this location. Giorgos and Alexandros had spent many holidays at this villa with their family. Which was mostly because of the location. You can stroll around the town and explore or spend a day by the beach. But I was also looking forward to spending a quiet day at the villa and enjoy that pleasant home-away-from-home feeling. Giorgos wanted to open his doors to all other cultures and allow everyone to experience that true Cretan feeling of the lesser-known part of Crete. As far as I'm concerned, that’s exactly what he did with Pearls of Crete.
