Not even thirty years old, Savvas had it made already. A nice home in the centre of Athens, a fast car, a good job: everything he had dreamed of as a Kefalonian boy had come true. Something was missing though and he couldn’t quite grasp what it was. During a short holiday back home, it hit him. He missed Kefalonia: his home island. The Volidiera estate, which Savvas visited all the time as a child, would become the setting of his new life. He used to pick olives here together with his parents and those had been his happiest days. Together with his sister, Savvas embarked on his new adventure: Guesthouse Volidiera.
A small guesthouse to provide their guests with that ultimate sense of being home. All six rooms were decorated with luxury and love, a combination of modern and the traditional style of the island. A place of ultimate peace and quiet with not much more than endless views and hundreds of olive trees for miles around. It struck me how well Savvas managed to bring his sense of hospitality to life in this guesthouse. I was back in the Netherlands for barely a week when the homesickness kicked in. The owner Savvas and his family breathe Kefalonian cuisine! Which is why they own a cosy tavern in the nearby town of Lixouri. Breakfast at Volidiera Guesthouse is a feast every single day, with pies, sandwiches and home-made jam made with fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs from the garden. Once a week, they organise a tasting evening with delicious Greek dishes and wine.

Are you booking a flight holiday? Then a rental car of the lowest category (Small Class) is selected as standard for your trip and you have the option of upgrading the rental car. You can pick up the rental car at the airport and drive to your accommodation yourself.
