Was I dreaming? I found myself by the edge of the bright blue swimming pool. On the other side I saw deep green palm trees. Wooden tables and chairs were inviting me for some fresh juice in the shade of the parasol. While loungers were promising some ultimate unwinding in the sun.
And there, between the waving palm leaves, I could see the crystal clear water of the Ionian Sea. A sea that I know well as my favourite beach on Kefalonia, Petani Beach, is on the doorstep of Myrtles of Petani. Every time I descend down to the beach, I am struck by the tropical water and snow-white sand. I could not wait to feel the warm gravel under my feet. When I had arrived a the location, the owner Sophia had told me that everyone leaves this place completely relaxed. A swimming pool and a beach separated by just a few steps, where else will you find such a thing? The beach is also where you'll find something to eat, at taverns that serve local specialities.
’Eliza?’ I woke up from my daydream and saw Sophia’s friendly eyes. ‘Would you like something to drink?’ A breeze with a hint of freshly grilled fish tickled my senses. ‘I think I’ll be heading over to the head’, I said cheerfully. I squeezed my arm. No, I’m not dreaming. This is real. Who wouldn’t dream of this place?
