In the harbour town of Agios Nikitas, I was walking past countless little boats peacefully floating about in clear green-blue water. Behind me, a couple of inviting patios. This was going to be my spot for the day. I chose a simple wooden chair and it didn't take long for a cheerful woman to show up. She brought me a Greek salad and chilled white wine and we struck up a conversation. Her name was Rena and she told me all about Greek cuisine. About her roots on the Greek island of Lefkas. And about her aunt who owns several remarkable villas on the hills of this island. ‘You must take a look for yourself. You know what, I will join you!’
Soon Rena and I were driving up the hills and it wasn’t long before the coast and cosy patios were quite a few metres below us. The hills of Lefkas seemed to be ruled by peace and quiet. Nothing but green anywhere in sight, until a couple of villas emerged out of nowhere. ‘Here we are, Nature Villas!’, Lena proudly exclaimed.
We got out of the car and I feasted my eyes. The colourful villas boast French windows and wide balconies. The light blue water of a swimming pool a couple of metres ahead reflected in my eyes. I walked over and was immediately rewarded with an enchanting view of the Greek sea. A little table was set by the pool. I sighed: ‘This place is stunning! Do you think they have room for another guest?’ I asked Rena. She said she would ask her aunt, and all I could do was hope. Because spending a couple of days here sounded like music to my ears!
