Kostas, my guide on the Greek island of Lefkas, is an old-fashioned romantic. During my holiday on the island, he took me to the quietest white little beaches with his boat and showed me the so-called ‘cliffs of love’. The poet Sappho is said to have jumped off these steep chalk cliffs with a broken heart. Kostas also told me about the most romantic spot he had ever seen. That is how we ended up at the traditional Pavezzo Country Retreat in the mountain town of Katouna.
Delicious breakfasts on the patio with a view of the green valley with its centuries-old olive groves, incredible massages and lazy afternoons by the pool... I can’t help but smile every time I think back to those days. Was it the bottles of wine under a sparkling starry night or the dreamless nights in my romantic canopy bed? Or maybe it was the stone cottage decorated with incredible attention to detail, tradition and a hint of nostalgia? I don't know. But Kostas, the old Greek romantic, was right when he said that my time in Katouna would be unforgettable.
