I once read that Lefko is Greek for white and Lefkas owes its name to the white beaches and cliffs at Cape Lefkatas. I would get a chance to see for myself as I had just arrived on this gorgeous island.
The morning sun warmed me up while I waited for my car to arrive. I had been there before, but there is always something new to discover. I got into my little red car and zoomed away, ready for adventure!
As I sang and drove by the impressive coast of Lefkas, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Now I knew why the island’s name was derived from its gorgeous white sandy beaches. I was on my way to a small mountain town on the north-eastern side of Lefkas. Greek friends in the Netherlands had told me about a hidden gem that I just had to explore. The thought alone gave me butterflies. Exciting!
As I drove into the little town of Katouna, I glanced up. There, on top of the mountain, I saw orange roof tiles rise up over the trees. The butterflies in my belly began to stir... A hidden gem indeed. Eager to get there, I picked up some more speed and after a couple of minutes I noticed a sign that said ‘Theasis Villas’. I followed the uphill path. It wasn’t long before five stone villas emerged, surrounded by a colourful garden. The azure blue water of the private swimming pool was shimmering in the sun. I was left speechless for a moment and all I could hear were the birds chirping around me. There I was, on top of the mountain, enjoying all the beauty around me. I had found my hidden gem!
