I looked at the sign. ‘Villa Nisa’, it said, in elegant letters. How lovely, the villa was named after the beautiful nymph Nisa from Greek mythology. I recalled the name I had seen on the fence when I entered the property: Anemones. I liked the name because it reminded me of the remarkable wind-fertilised plant, but I just realised what it actually stands for. Anemones is also an illustrious nymph from the old Greek stories whom many male gods were in love with. My curiosity was triggered. What kind of place was this?
My bag still in my hand, I looked around the estate. They could not have come up with better names for their villas. Such magnificent beauty! The estate houses five villas, all with a sea of space around them with porches, private swimming pools and vibrant flowers and plants. As I looked at the nearest pool, I spotted the glistening blue Ionian Sea behind it. Before I knew it, someone took my bag. It was the owner, who had walked over to meet me. ‘Welcome to Anemones Villas! I can see you've discovered the view. Do you like the sea? I will take you to the beaches later. It’s only fifteen minutes by car.’
We crossed the grassy garden, walked down a stone path and arrived at one of the villas. I looked behind me and saw a town in the distance down the hill. Is that Lefkada, the capital? We arrived at the villa and I checked the sign. ‘Kallisto’. I grinned. The nymph of nymphs. I was in for a treat.
