A refreshing breeze kissed my face as I walked onto the balcony of my villa at Schiza Houses. I saw orange façades all around. What an invigorating start to my day! I stared into the distance and was able to distinguish olive trees and the azure blue sea shimmering in the sun. And a couple of islands far out at sea.
From my balcony, I strolled over to the ground floor. The temptation to take a dip in the swimming pool was almost irresistible, but I decided to go talk to Yiannis and Inge first. ‘Good morning, Yiannis!’, I said. He waved. ‘We’re going to the village, would you like to join?’ He asked. ‘Inge and I are buying some fish for tonight.’ Yiannis told me that Finikounda is a quiet fishermen’s village with several cafés, bars, taverns and souvenir shops. And despite the hustle and bustle, Yiannis said that it is never too busy. Just as I had expected of a peninsula: serenity and space. ‘And if you’re up for a little more of an adventure than the fish market, you can hop on a boat for a trip to four different islands.’ Venetiko, Schiza, Agios Marina and Sapienza, to be precise. Together, they are called the Inousses islands. Boredom will be out of the question today, Eliza!’ he cheerfully concluded. Suddenly, I realised that those must be the islands I had seen from my balcony that morning. Yiannis was right: boredom was out of the question. Time to get us some fish and then head out to sea...
