Boschetto Villas

‘Welcome to the most beautiful spot on Zakynthos. Once you've had a taste of this place, you'll never want to leave.’ This is the warm welcome I received from Pepos as he handed me the key to the private villa. My curiosity was ignited and my heart stolen.

The same goes for Boschetto Village, the vast and woody area that houses Pepos’ magnificent villas. All villas were built of natural stone, wood and iron. I was struck by the rural yet easygoing atmosphere. The tall brown shutters next to large windows and bright red plants in a terracotta pot by the front door. How inviting! As I entered the villa, I realised just how beautiful it was...

For three days straight, I enjoyed the luxury in and around the villa. What a relaxing experience. On the fourth day, I headed out to explore the area. Which is rugged and mountainous, but my car was up to the task. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a sign that said ‘Porto Roxa Beach’. I stopped and turned around. That sounded like something I’d want to explore. The beach seemed quiet and remote, apart from a sudden cheerful laugh. I saw a couple of children jumping into the sea from an old-fashioned diving board. Nostalgia overwhelmed me and I couldn’t resist the urge to do the same. After my dip and an hour of snorkelling in the clear blue water, I got back into my car. On the way home, I stopped at a small town to buy some fish, a bottle of wine and a baguette. The swimming had left me hungry and I couldn’t wait to start the barbecue on my very own patio. What luxury!
