Already on the first day of my stay I felt that something was different. The three villas of Archontiko Koutsis had something special. As if these newly built villas had a much older past. Owner Kostas started to smile when I asked him carefully about the story behind the villas and told me proudly about his life's work.
For centuries the land has been in the hands of Kostas' family. As a little boy he often visited his great-grandfather. Until the earthquake of 1953, when hundreds of houses on the island were destroyed beyond repair. So was the property of Kostas' family: nothing was left. For decades the estate lay abandoned.
When Kostas got the chance to start up a luxury holiday resort a few years ago, he didn't have to think long. On the estate of his ancestors he built three villas, exactly as he could remember them from his childhood. With all possible modern amenities, but the details are all equally authentic: the natural materials, the colours, the specially tailored furniture. Kostas has it all figured out: in his villas he lets the happiest years of his youth live on.
