Church bells chimed in the distance and birds chirped while I was waiting in the shade at Residence II Casale. I didn’t mind that the owner of this magnificent location hadn’t arrived yet, because it gave me the chance to relish my surroundings. The beautiful garden has an English feel to it with its narrow paths and blossoming flowers. A 16th-century farm quietly sits in the centre, surrounded by woody hills with the town of Cortona in the distance.
Before long, an old Italian gentleman approached. It was Vittorio. "You picked my favourite spot, that’s exactly where I like to sit!" I spent that morning with the man who had converted the farm into a stunning holiday location. He had restored it to its former glory with historic materials everywhere, high wooden ceilings, old walls and stable windows. And carefully composed furniture to emphasise the Tuscan style. We arrived at the apartment. A bed painted with flowers caught my eye and I stopped in front of each window to glance outside. "So? Will you stay with us for a night?" I smiled. "A night? I will be staying longer than that!". ‘Wait here, let me get your key'. Vittorio walked away at a casual pace.
The birds were still chirping and I took a good look around by the pool in the sun. A deep sigh of happiness escaped my lungs when he returned with a chilled prosecco and the key. "For the apartment with the flowers", he smiled. This gentleman sees everything, I thought to myself. Which is exactly what sets his location apart: endless Tuscan beauty to admire.
