Sometimes I wish I had eight days in a week. To explore and enjoy life even more. Which is one reason why I was so happy when I heard about Borgo della Meliana. A centuries-old Tuscan farm perched on a hill right at the centre of the medieval triangle of Florence-Pisa-Siena! Naturally, I wasn’t going to pass on the opportunity. A Borgo at such a prime location is the epitome of what makes Tuscany so special!
On the way there, I had the constant urge to stop and get out of the car to marvel at all the beauty. I could see Borgo della Meliana on a hill in the distance. I was driving on a beautiful road called ‘Via Francigena’: the Autostrada del Sole of the middle ages. An old pilgrim route to the holy city of Rome. I imagined the pilgrims walking through the Tuscan landscape.
When I arrived at the Borgo, owner Paola was waiting for me. Loyal to her Italian nature, she started telling me all about her Borgo della Meliana right away. The former typical farm consists of two centuries-old buildings, both perfectly renovated. With a love of history and Tuscan culture. And it shows, both indoors and out. The spacious apartments are luxurious, charming and very Tuscan. Paola told me how they had been roaming around antique markets to find just the right furniture. It’s one of those places where you just can’t stop looking around. Two quiet swimming pools are situated between the Tuscan hills while a centuries-old building houses gorgeous apartments. Everything is a feast for the eyes. No wonder the pilgrims chose this route. Not to mention the fact that Florence-Pisa-Siena are all nearby. Teeming with energy, I ran back to the car to collect my suitcases.
