I was looking at a white building with striking blue windows and doors. Behind me were the serene and peaceful hills of Alentejo. Donkeys were grazing to my right and wild flowers blossoming to my left. Suitcases in hand, I stopped to absorb the picturesque scenery at Quinta do Chocalhinho. "Let me take those suitcases off your hands", the owner Luís said enthusiastically as he approached me. Around here, a warm welcome is a given.
The room has a modern interior with traditional Portuguese elements. The white bed makes for a beautiful contrast with the brick wall. And then there is the view... A feast for the eyes and a perfect opportunity to let your thoughts wander. Luís softly tapped my shoulder and brought me back to planet earth. He invited me to have a bite to eat so he could tell me all about the attractions in the area. I couldn’t wait.
Later that day, I found myself on the bed trying to plan the next day. He had given me so much inspiration! Perhaps I would go for a walk or visit the animals at the farm. Another option was to take a canoe down Mira river. As I recalled Luís’ story, my heart melted once again. He was raised right here by his grandfather. What a remarkable place!
