"Quinta do Rapozinho, Rapozinho, Ra-po-zin-ho", I hummed on my way to Terese's holiday location. Doesn’t that word sound like music to your ears? So melodic, almost enchanting. As I was driving up meandering mountain roads, I wondered whether the place I was headed for is just as beautiful as its name.
That is when I spotted a couple of natural stone cottages surrounded by a green landscape. Was this it? It looked like an entire village! I arrived at the driveway where I received a warm welcome from the owner, Terese. She caught me staring. ‘Do you like it?’, she laughed. I nodded and Terese started to tell me all about the old quinta. The farm had been here since antiquity and was passed down from generation to generation. Terese's father converted the quinta to the accommodation it is today. Peacefully located, surrounded by greenery, he created one of the most remarkable holiday locations in northern Portugal.
Terese led me inside and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was like stepping into another century. Walls of natural stone, wooden mezzanines with cute stairs, authentic beams supporting the roof. Every apartment is different with its own charm and all rooms were decorated with authentic furniture. Some of the furniture is made of cork, a unique natural material from the region. Every corner just breathes that rustic atmosphere. And yet, all rooms come with all kinds of modern amenities!
After the grand tour, I retreated to my room. I had been told that breakfast is something else here, so I couldn’t wait for the morning to arrive! Indeed, Quinta do Rapozinho is as beautiful as its name...
