When I heard about a Dutch-owned ecological estate surrounded by nature in northern Portugal, my enthusiasm was triggered right away. This could only mean one thing: total serenity. Karin and Jan had been waiting for me with a welcome drink. I took a sip and looked around. An old farm spanning 6 hectares with a large mansion and gorgeous granite houses. Such a stunning place.
Karin told me that she and Jan purchased this magnificent piece of Portugal to realise their dream in 2005. Everything here is about ecology and the organic lifestyle. Breakfast consists of organic food, for instance. I asked Karin about her main source of pride and her eyes lit up. She told me all about their ecological swimming pond, the centrepiece of their holiday location.
Once the sun had set, I was surprised with a regional dish prepared by chef Antero and a glass of their very own wine. An absolutely delicious meal. It felt like time had stopped and a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Jan invited me on a hike around Quinta Vale Porcacho the next day. I couldn't wait...
