In the mountain town of Aigues, I found a seemingly abandoned, centuries-old inn. The silence is magnificent and the panoramic view of the countryside and the sea is absolutely stunning. With just a thousand residents, they lead the life of mañana. Angel was a Spaniard who happened to be touring the village. In front of a run-down mansion, a spontaneous smile appeared on his face. This is the beginning of the beautiful story of Posada La Venteta, a centuries-old inn, revived by Angel and the Dutch owner Ger.
One day, that is exactly where I found myself. A perfectly renovated blue mansion with white window frames and flowers blossoming of joy. ‘A hundred years ago, this was an inn for traders and travellers. The location and construction style felt like this house had been waiting for me all those years. I wanted to restore it to its original state. To how it used to be’. And so Angel embarked on a quest.
In the neighbourhood and the town hall, he eventually found the grandson of the original owner. ‘He remembered all the details. He even recalled the exact location of the olive and almond trees!’ Within a year, Ger and Angel were living in Spain like gods. They had infused the place with all the comfort, luxury and creativity they could muster. With a different style for all five rooms in the house and the annex in the garden: with stylish antique, dreamy romantic details and French charm. They added a fireplace with a seating area, painted the walls deep red and built a swimming pool.
‘The old function has been restored. A place to eat, rest and enjoy the silence’. I smiled. The story of an inn that was brought back to life. And everyone lived happily ever after.
