One day, I took a turn that would change my life forever. The path led to and oasis called Finca el Tossal and their proud owners, Thorsten and Sonia.
I had left the port city of Alicante earlier that morning and after a half-hour bumpy ride to the Algar valley with its stunning nature and unparalleled relaxing atmosphere, it felt like I had gone back in time. Here is what happened next. Thorsten had prepared a glass of cava for me on the patio where dinner is served to their guests, protected by parasols and with a gorgeous view of the sea. ‘This restaurant was created by our guests. Everyone wanted to stay here all day long! That’s why we decided to add this small restaurant to the estate.’
I couldn’t wait to see it all as a unique Finca-el-Tossal-feeling took over my body. It wasn’t long before I found myself wandering around the hotel, completely relaxed. Palm trees were waving in the wind, nature was blossoming like nowhere else, the swimming pool graced the place with its elegant curves and guests were enjoying the sun wherever I looked. Each individual rock, the centuries-old wood, every single detail had been carefully crafted by Thorsten. He had renovated the mansion in a Mediterranean and Moorish atmosphere. The suite where I’d be staying was equally atmospheric: decorated in the same style and fitted with a canopy bed. And the view: a perfect balance between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Every step I took felt like a step closer to heaven.
Now, I was relaxing on a lounger with a view of all the beauty. ‘There’s never a bad moment for a siesta here’, he smiled. A deep sigh escaped my lungs. I was lucky that Finca el Tossal had crossed my path and I will keep coming back for a long time to come.
