I was on a holiday in Andalusia and decided to take the Mudejar Route. I was halfway down the 75-kilometre route that took me past all kinds of picturesque towns, green valleys and mountainous landscapes. The towns along this route feature typical Moorish and Mudejar remnants and architecture. One day, I found myself at restaurant El Curro in the small town of Archez. With just 475 inhabitants, the locals are always in for a chat.

I asked the waiter if he could recommend a place for me to stay in this beautiful area. I couldn’t wait to go on a long hike to explore the area the next morning. A match was quickly found: Villa Archez, a bed & breakfast owned by the Dutch couple Ton and Joke.

I ventured into the mountains and found the B&B. After a warm welcome, Joke offered me a glass of wine. We ended up talking about the region, their Spanish adventure and the panoramic view well into the wee hours. I would be joining them for dinner the next day and decided there and then to take a break from my journey for a couple of days. I wanted to see what adventures lay ahead of me here...

The best way to discover your destination is by car!
