Your heart speaks the truth. Sometimes, I come across people who have turned this sentence into their philosophy of life. The Dutch owner Minouche certainly has. She and her husband Serge created Paraiso Perdido Casa Rural. My heart skipped a couple of beats the second I arrived at their lost paradise.
I entered the gate and couldn’t help but slow my pace. The palm trees slowly rocking in the wind, the impressive Arabic lanterns. I couldn’t get around it: the peace and quiet came over me with a big smile. I met Minouche at the jaima, the large Moroccan tent in the garden, and she radiated the same thing that makes her finca so special. We enjoyed some cava between the colourful cushions. ‘Serge and I used to live in London. We both had demanding careers and our lives were speeding by. But we had a dream: to save up and then pick up and leave. To a quiet, sunny place near the sea. When I got pregnant, we chose Spain and left. We travelled all over the place, from desolate meditation spots in the mountains to a decayed brothel in a bustling city centre. Then, we discovered the Costa de la Luz. I was smitten right away’. I know the feeling, the beaches, the light, the ocean and the authentic Andalusian locals. ‘This would be our lost paradise where time plays no role, status is irrelevant and the hectic urban life is far away’.
The night fell, the lanterns were lit, the cloths fluttering in the wind. I had discovered many pleasant spots that day where I sat down and didn’t want to get up. Not to mention the swimming pool or the atmospheric private cabana in an Arabic style. I smiled: a lost paradise indeed. My heart skipped a beat once again.
