Meandering paths through the mountains led me to a unique location under the Spanish sun called Hotel Casona Granado. My Spanish friend Salvador had recommended this place for my next trip to Andalusia. He had described their eight tastefully decorated rooms, the refreshing pool and the authentic Spanish cuisine served at the restaurant. Clearly, I had to go and see for myself!
A large white building with window frames in bright colours and three French balconies drew my attention. The building is decorated with all kinds of plants in countless little terracotta pots for some characteristic Spanish charm. Based on Salvador’s description, this had to be Hotel Casona Granado. The owners, Rachel and Clayton, welcomed me as I entered the building and gave me an enthusiastic grand tour of the hotel. We passed the large swimming pool and I couldn’t wait to jump in and freshen up. The garden is full of flowers in all kinds of bright colours. And by the end of the pool, I saw some extremely comfortable-looking loungers.
It was my lucky day: the hotel still had a room available for the night. The room has a modern interior combined with authentic details: wooden beams on the ceiling, a natural stone wall and sleek furniture. A brightly-coloured rug on the floor cheered me up right away, as if I needed to be. Rachel had reserved me a table at the restaurant for dinner. I was looking forward to their authentic Spanish food, but not before taking a refreshing dip in the pool.
