With my eyes closed, I listened to the babbling water in the brook. Peter Jan, the Belgian owner, certainly got himself a beautiful little spot. I sighed and sank a little deeper into my chair. I had just returned from a great hike and got comfy on the private patio. A chilled glass of wine within arm’s reach. I blinked my eyes and saw the old watermill in the gorgeous garden. My thoughts wandered to the story Peter Jan had told me earlier...

He had set out to find a beautiful spot in Andalusia twenty years ago. Away from the hustle and bustle. He found the estate with its old watermill where grain used to be ground. ‘We were negotiating for a year because this place wasn’t actually for sale. We fixed up the mill, installed water and electricity and started building the cottages’, he had told me. I can see why he went out of his way. Molino Rio Alajar breathes serenity.
