Friendly, stylish and whiter than white! As I drove into the town of Montejaque, I looked around and felt energised right away. Such beauty! The town is surrounded by the impressive mountains of Ronda that create a stunning contrast with the clear blue sky. All I could see further up ahead were white cottages. Such a colourful spectacle of contrasts! I stopped to take a couple of photos because I wanted to cherish the view and bring it home to the Netherlands. The beaming sun added to the scene and completely immersed me in that typical atmosphere of a holiday in Andalusia.
The feeling was amplified even more when I arrived at Casa de Montejaque, where I received a warm welcome from Antonio, a true local who can talk about Montejaque for hours on end. In fluent Spanish, he told me all about his ‘casas’ and that the name Montejaque actually means ‘Lost Mountain’. He showered me with great tips for activities and outings. ‘Do you like hiking and horseback riding? Or mountain biking? You’ve come to the right place. I’ll give you a bike to explore our beautiful inlands whenever you want!’ I laughed, grabbed my suitcase and decided to go find my room.
The private patio offers such a stunning view of the beautiful garden, the spacious sun terrace with loungers and the swimming pool. Would I take a refreshing dip first? I decided against it because Antonio’s many tips were just too tempting to pursue. I sank into the sofa, grabbed my notepad and started sketching out my schedule for the week: Visit Ronda, stroll around the narrow and steep alleys of Montejaque, spot birds and other animals at Sierra de Grazelema national park, hiking and horseback riding, of course. I had a busy week ahead of me and couldn’t wait to get started!
