After a lengthy hike in the national park of Cap de Creus, I returned to my car. Catalonia is such a magnificent part of Spain. With its rugged coastlines and gorgeous, unspoiled nature in the inlands. On my way to Rectoria de Regencós, my residence for the night, I marvelled at the green hills on my right and vineyards on my left.
A large, yellow-orange house emerged in the distance. It wasn’t long before a Spanish lady came out to meet me. We exchanged a couple of Spanish pecks on the cheek and she introduced herself as Alicia, the owner of Rectoria Regencós. ‘Come, I prepared some tasty tapas for you!’, she said enthusiastically. I felt relief from the Spanish heat outside the second we walked in. We sat down at a large wooden table and Alicia started to talk. The 18th-century building was once a presbytery. A couple of years ago, she decided to convert it to a pleasant place to receive guests while maintaining the essence of the house. ‘I created a place for romantic couples as well as families with children. Everyone should feel welcome here, that is my goal!’
