I opened a window and my belly filled up with butterflies as I was jolting the steering wheel from left to right and back. I had fallen in love with Fuerteventura. Braving the meandering road, I was recalling what had been an amazing day. I had spent the day at the Gayría natural reserve. The impressive volcanic landscapes had taken my breath away. Rugged, raw yet so gorgeous! Barely an hour later, I found myself driving around the charming little town of Tuineje, surrounded by white cottages. That is where I met Antonio at a coffee bar, a cheerful Spaniard who provided me with a tasty cappuccino and some pleasant banter. He is the one who pointed me to my next destination: Villa Morisca.
’So, you’re looking for a nice place to stay and unwind?’, Antonio had asked me that afternoon, ‘Look no further! I've got just the thing for you’. He left to make a phone call and returned with a smile: ‘Eliza, they’d love to have you and are preparing your room as we speak’. A productive encounter, because it wasn’t long before I arrived at Antonio's favourite spot: Villa Morisca. As I parked the car and got out, I was surprised by an immediate sense of peace. Such silence. And beauty!
Later that night, while the sun was slowly setting, I listened to the stories of Villa Morisca’s owners. It was no accident that the house was so beautiful: when renovating the place, they made sure to stay loyal to the original look and feel. With authentic doors, windows, walls and decorations. I adore this type of old, authentic places renovated to fit today's luxury standards. Antonio was right. I would be staying here for a while.
