I used to think that Ibiza is all about its extravagant nightlife. But this member of the Balearic Islands is also a true hippie Valhalla and it left a completely different impression. There are plenty of picturesque discoveries to be made away from the masses. A sun holiday on Ibiza is a true fairytale! My thoughts drift off regularly... To the colourful orchards and green hills in the north, the rocky bays in the south and the traditional white boutique hotels or picturesque little churches in the inland region. The landscape is rugged and unspoiled and you can even spot flamingos on the salt flats of Las Salinas! Not to mention the atmosphere on the island. What a unique part of Spain.
Whether it be for a week or a longer small-scale holiday; I just love staying in a hotel on Ibiza. They tend to be decorated in a typical Ibiza style, from ultimate hippie to romantic bohemian. You'll also find some authentic fincas and modern apartments to experience the ultimate hospitality of this island. Highly recommended for a honeymoon and a popular wedding destination for good reason. What an enchanting place.
My recommendations for the Spanish islands are small-scale and unique, which also means they may be fully booked quite far in advance. Be sure to book your holiday to Ibiza in time. Want to get inspired for your next adventure? Check out my latest discoveries or last minutes to Ibiza.
Good to know: my flying holidays to Ibiza always include a rental car and a place to stay.
Whenever I'm on a fly & drive holiday on Ibiza, I spend many hours exploring remote beaches, undiscovered restaurants and natural reserves. Cala d’en Serra and Cala Llentia are perfect little beaches to unwind, surrounded by nothing but peace and quiet and the sound of crashing waves. Nature enthusiasts have plenty to explore on Ibiza, including my green holiday tip: the Las Salinas natural reserve. It houses no less than 178 plant varieties and 210 different types of birds. For those who want to experience some of the centuries-old culture, the authentic Dalt Vila is an interesting attraction during a tour of Ibiza. The historic heart of Ibiza will transport you back to a different era. And you'll get some gorgeous views of the island to boot because the area is located on a hill and towers over Ibiza city.
As I returned to my hotel, I was treated to one of Ibiza’s most breathtaking sunsets. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Many will resonate with the feeling I get from a sunset like that. My trips to Ibiza represent a certain lifestyle. It is something beautiful, intangible and impossible to define. This magical island will enchant you in no time!
The long summer evenings on Ibiza will give you plenty of time to enjoy the tastiest dishes with a good glass of wine. I often think about the authentic restaurants by the sea, discovered during many road trips by the coast. Ibizan cuisine has various culinary influences, such as Arabic and African. Fish is a prominent part of the Ibizan menu, as I learned while island hopping between the other Spanish islands of Menorca and Mallorca. I love fish, so the menus often present me with a difficult choice. There are just so many great options! Just the thought of arròs a la bruta, rice with squid, or guisat de peix, a dish with different fish varieties and potatoes, is enough to water my mouth.
The weather on Ibiza is perfect for a sun holiday due to its warm Mediterranean Sea climate. Ibiza has mild winters and warm summers with winter temperatures around 15 degrees and summer temperatures around 30 degrees. I highly recommend it for a beach holiday between mid June and late summer around mid September. And of course, it is always great option if you want to spend holiday by the sea. In July and August, Ibiza offers nice and long summer nights with a temperature that barely drops at all.
