As I drove into the town of Del Golfo by the sea in the south of Lanzarote, I immediately noticed the large number of fish restaurants and the aroma of fresh fish being prepared there. It wasn’t long before I spotted my host, Andres, by the gate of his historic mansion. ‘Welcome to Caletón del Golfo!’, he cried from afar. His warm greeting was almost drowned out by the ferocious waves of the ocean as they were exuberantly smashing into the rocks behind him. First thing, Andres showed me the view while proudly telling me about his grandfather who played a major role in creating the residence. ‘Look, that is one of his gems’, Andres pointed. I couldn't believe my eyes. A natural pool had been carved out of the rocks in front of the complex with a spectacular view of the sunset over the fierce waves. ‘Ready for a dip?’, Andres read my mind. I gave him a grateful nod and found myself in the natural pool in no time.
Not much later, with my hair still wet, I walked across the courtyard towards the three apartments. I discovered a well where rainwater is collected to provide the rooms with water. Inside, I marvelled at all the decorations that honour Andres’ grandparents. Together with the modern sleek interior that makes the apartments comfortable as they are, as well as the typical Canary architecture and exclusive materials, a remarkable atmosphere is achieved. I was going to have an excellent time here!
