Finca Las Laderas

Almost 10 years ago, the German Elke Sellmann fell in love. With Lanzarote, with her husband and painter Juan whom she met there and she fell in love with a ruin right at the heart of the island’s fascinating lava landscape. Since my stay at their Finca Las Laderas on Lanzarote, I completely understand why!

Elke and Juan had bought the ruin of an old farm together and took years to transform it into a home. A home for their guests as well as for themselves. Their finca contains beautiful apartments for seekers of serenity like myself. Plus, they left many details of the authentic farm in tact. The apartments are decorated with Juan’s paintings. And in my apartment, Elke even showed me a stone that was once used to tie the donkey! Today, the finca consists of five apartments and Elke and Juan no longer live there themselves. Still, they can be found in and around their gorgeous location every day.

Wherever you look, you feel the limitless perseverance and incredible amount of love that Juan and Elke put into their dream. And once I had installed myself my the pool with a saucer of olives and a cold drink, and saw the black sand and pearly white finca glistening in the sun, I fell in love too. The best way to discover your destination is by car!

Are you booking a flight holiday? Then a rental car of the lowest category (Small Class) is selected as standard for your trip and you have the option of upgrading the rental car. You can pick up the rental car at the airport and drive to your accommodation yourself.
