For over a thousand years, the Traumantana mountains are home to an impressive mansion: s’Olivaret. Susanna, a Spanish natural beauty, was waiting for me by the swimming pool with a delicious glass of chilled ‘rosado’ wine. She knows the place so well, you’d think she grew up there. The estate used to produce olive oil back in the day, which put bread on the table for the families that lived here. The gigantic olive oil press is still there and the stables have been converted into what is now one of Mallorca's best restaurants.
Susanna had recommended to leave the car and explore the area by bicycle, so that's what I did. The journey was intense but worth every second. As I was cycling in the silence of the rugged mountain landscape, civilisation seemed miles away. And it was! Following an afternoon of braving the mountains, I took a well-deserved break at s’Olivaret's sauna. That night, I dreamed of my journey: further and further up the meandering mountain roads towards the setting sun.
