After a long drive, I parked my car at a cute little square in the town of Petra on Mallorca. Time for coffee! I looked around and saw a couple of palm trees and beautiful yellow building. I decided to take a seat on the patio of a small bar across the street. A typical Spanish waiter with dark hair greeted me. I ordered an espresso and complimented him on the beautiful location. ‘Thanks!’, he smiled with pride in his eyes. ‘Are you staying here?’, he asked. I told him I didn’t have a place to stay yet, and was just exploring the island to see where my journey would take me. ‘Ah! Let me help you!’
Half an hour later, I knew all about where Oliverio, the waiter, used to come all the time as a child. Son Calo, a location that only recently opened its doors as a guesthouse. Not far from the café. I decided to take a look and thanked Oliverio for the delicious coffee and pleasant chat.
As I drove onto the Son Calo estate, all I could do was marvel at the surroundings. Oliverio was right: this place is breathtaking. I parked my car by the side of the road and walked in, where I found a friendly looking gentleman. He looked up and greeted me. A smile appeared on his face when I mentioned Oliverio and he proceeded to tell me all about their childhood friendship and the history of this house. Juan grew up here, and he wasn’t the only one. The finca was passed from generation to generation for over 200 years. I listened to Juan’s story and marvelled at the brown shutters of this large Spanish house. What a beautiful location!
