I had only just arrived at my destination in the western-most tip of Menorca when the annual festivities of the Sant Joan holiday erupted in the nearby town of Ciutadella. Knights on horses had conquered the town as the residents celebrated Medieval festivities. An excellent opportunity to get to know the extremely polite locals and the high-quality Spanish food of this region.

After a day of festive hustle and bustle, it was time to relax. I found a spot in the gorgeous bay of Cala’n Blanes at walking distance from my holiday residence and next to the beach bar that served me a chilled drink. I was staying at Nure Mar y Mar for a couple of days, a small-scale complex situated in a cosy residential area. During my walk over to the beach, I had imagined myself living here as a local. Not a bad idea. The island is small, the bays phenomenal and the people friendly.

I shared my thoughts with the host, Marina, and she answered with a friendly laugh. ‘Holiday isn't the same thing as everyday life’, she warned me with a wink. ‘But you’re always welcome to enjoy our beautiful island. Menorca has something for everyone.’

The best way to discover your destination is by car!

Are you booking a flight holiday? Then a rental car of the lowest category (Small Class) is selected as standard for your trip and you have the option of upgrading the rental car. You can pick up the rental car at the airport and drive to your accommodation yourself.
