"Give me another slice," I nod to my host, who comes curiously to see if I like his home-made tarts for breakfast. The coffee is excellent and on the table are freshly squeezed juice, yoghurt, cheese, ham and eggs. What's more, the view could not be better. From the terrace I look out over the sea and the whimsical rock formations. The sun even warms my bare shoulders early in the morning.
"How did you end up at this beautiful spot?", I ask the owner of Isla Baja Suites. "My ancestors bought the property in 1886," he says. "We started the renovation in 2009 and these suites are the result." He looks proud, and has every reason to be. The property has been beautifully renovated. The old, classic style of the finca is combined with contemporary comfort and a high degree of luxury. My suite is huge, the beds are soft and I have a cosy living room to retire to in the evening.
Not that it will happen soon in Garachico. The old centre of this picturesque village is within walking distance and there are numerous restaurants and terraces. I like to treat myself to local delicacies after sunset and enjoy the friendly, hospitable people. Then to fall asleep like a princess in the four-poster bed of my sensational suite.
