"Another beautiful day today!" I hesitate: do I dive into the jacuzzi, do I choose the swimming pool or do I settle on my roof terrace with a view of the plantation. These are not the only choices of the good life I have to make here at Casas de Piedra. For the secret of this rustic spot is that it is hidden in a banana plantation, with the hustle and bustle of the southern part of Tenerife just beyond. "Here it is sometimes 5 or 6 degrees warmer than in the quiet north", owner Fransisco told me yesterday. "That's why in the 1980s they decided to build all those hotels further down the road. But you don't notice that here, do you? Here it is both north and south." I had nodded while a bird softly whistled and the bananas around me continued to grow. "And the sun, it is here as often as I want it," he had said with a smile. "The good Canary life!"
And that is what you will find here: the bungalows are also decorated the Canarian way: atmospheric, colourful red and yellow, cosy seating areas and a patio for the wee hours. In the evening, take a stroll around the plantation, play a game of bocce or hit the tennis court. Or shall I walk to the beach a bit further?
"Will you also join the excursion on the plantation tomorrow?" Francisco walks towards me, smiling. "Tomorrow will be a beautiful day!" I keep having to choose between all the good things here and again I hesitate. "Maybe I'll take a bit from the north and a bit from the south", I decide. "Casas de Piedra", Francisco laughs. The jacuzzi is out of service at the moment. It isn't clear yet, when you can use the jacuzzi again.
