I stopped to catch my breath after a hike in the mountains of the Masca region on Tenerife and saw a man in the distance approaching on a horse. "Buenos días!", the horse stopped to sniff some leftovers from a sandwich in my pocket. The owner of the horse looked at me, laughing. ‘We are so much alike, always up for a tasty snack.’ We struck up a conversation and I found out that the friendly rider is called Enrique. I told him how much I’d love to ride a horse in this beautiful area and he immediately invited me for a tour of his hotel nearby. As it turns out, they’ve got plenty of horses.
The second we arrived at La Casona del Patio, I noticed the abundance of space and serenity. The relaxed atmosphere made me feel like civilisation was miles away. I was also struck by the amount of love and care they give their horses. Their five horses and ponies are clearly used to being around people. They turned their heads my way for a rub as soon I walked by the stables. Enrique had yet another surprise for me. He led me to a small building, opened the wooden door and revealed a jacuzzi and a sauna inside. All of this at the backdrop of acoustic music and a delicious, refreshing spa fragrance in the air. ‘So, would you like to pick a horse right now or unwind at the spa first?’ Enrique read my mind. ‘Just as I thought, I’ll be back in an hour, Eliza!’.
