What is a Quinta?

An idyllic Portuguese country house

When I visit my Portuguese quinta with friends it’s like time stands still. The Portuguese countryside is quite timeless and we can spend a morning hiking, swimming, or exploring. In the afternoon we might rest (or, if I’m being honest – sample some local delicacies!).

This trip to the Portuguese countryside in an authentically rural setting is very restorative. Many of these old country houses have been fashioned into B&Bs or boutique hotels and they offer you a little bit of Portuguese paradise. On the green island of Madeira, your quinta might be surrounded by flowers or exotic plants. In the Algarve, the Atlantic Coast beckons everywhere, and Alentejo in Northern Portugal is known for the cosiness of its quintas.

If you book a flight holiday with me, it always includes accommodation and rental car!

Discover my quintas in the Mediterranean

Diverse and unique Portugal

During my trips through Portugal, I often stayed in an authentic quinta. Such a quinta is a typical Portuguese holiday destination, you can find them in almost every region of Portugal. These quintas all have their own characteristics and specialities. I once stayed in a quinta with handmade details in the Algarve. Or that one time when I stayed on a century-old farm in Northern Portugal, where I was allowed to pick the vegetables from the vegetable garden for dinner! Staying in an authentic quinta, in a beautiful rural environment with the sweetest owners, guarantees a unique holiday.

Experience rural life in Portugal

The various quintas I stayed at are all far away from the crowd. Here you really imagine yourself in rural Portuguese life. Close to the local population and often in the middle of quiet nature, where there are plenty of opportunities for cycling and walking tours or even for a climbing session. The lovely owners, the feeling of coming home, a quinta is the perfect place for me to spend my holiday in Portugal.

Looking for unique quintas

Driving through picturesque villages, undiscovered paths, and vast vineyards. Looking for unique quintas, where I am pleasantly surprised every time. In Alentejo, for example, I was surprised to find a quinta, surrounded by beautiful nature. And in Costa de Lisboa I could continue to enjoy the sea that is within reach at my accommodation. From your quinta you can discover the entire area during your special sunny holiday in Portugal. One minute you're walking through the different colorful trails and the next you're making a splash in a cooling pool. A quinta is really suitable for everyone…
